| Have you ever
had Indian Fry Bread? If not, you are in for a treat. Especially Ansel Woodenknife's authentic original recipe. One of Ansel's Secret
Ingredients is Timpsula, the Prairie Turnip, which was also known as
the wild prairie turnip and is used in the mix today. It was one of
the most important ingredients in the wild food gathered by the
Sioux Indians living on the prairies at the time. You will never
find another fry bread as good!
No additives. A Sioux recipe..

Fry bread is a lot like a chewy fried Dutch yeast bread we grew up
with called Ole Bollen. Only it was a lot more time consuming.
WoodenKnife fry bread does not need to be kneaded and is made in a
small fraction of the time!
Mix 1/2 cup of water to 1 cup of fry bread mix in
a bowl stirring well. Mixture will be sticky. Let is sit covered for
20 minutes to 30 minutes. Depending on the depth of your frying pan,
heat an inch to an 1 1/2" of oil to 375 degrees. While your oil is
heating, place your frybread on a floured board. Just enough flour
to roll our your dough and keep it from sticking to the board while
you are cutting it into strips. Cut into strips, or squares and
drop, one at a time, into the hot oil turning them over at least
once to cook on the other side. Cook til golden brown.
Drizzle with honey or sprinkle with powdered sugar.

What other things can you do with fry
bread? So many things come to mind! I have added fruits and nuts,
have made 'mince' meat pockets, or fruit pockets before frying
them. After hunting season, we enjoy some of our specially smoked
and flavored sausages, country herbs and seaonsings, and dried
garden vegetables mixed with homemade gravy in the center of a
square of this delcious fry bread folded over and sealed and
pressed with a fork. Sound good? It is! You will thoroughly enjoy
